Mid-Island Sustainable Stewardship Initiative

 

 

The Mid-Island Sustainable Stewardship Initiative was formed in November 2007. We are a non-profit organization that is addressing sustainable community development considerations in the mid-Vancouver Island region of British Columbia, Canada.

Purpose

 

To promote and implement sustainable community objectives, with particular emphasis on the general area between Ladysmith and Nanaimo

Objectives

 

  • Assemble local ideas and perspectives concerning land use, growth and development, ecological systems, habitat requirements and communities
  • Formulate consensus and preferences for land-use and communities
  • Educate local communities on sustainable uses of land, water and air, food security, pollution and climate change
  • Serve as a point of contact and exchange of information among existing organizations with similar objectives
  • Represent local perspectives to relevant authorities
  • Assist local and Canadian efforts for sustainability, and furthering outreach to other communities
  • Identify and attract sources of funding in support of these objectives.
